Visit of Prince Charles

Meeting Prince Charles

Just before the new community centre was built in Princetown I was on the committee (HMCA) which had been created to plan, fundraise and oversee the build of the new centre.  During the build I took over as chair and became even more deeply involved.  I hired a manager to run it as it was a substantial building costing 1.75 million.

The plan for the building was for it to house the Library, Doctors surgery and playschool.  It also had a very large sports hall as well as a small hall, changing rooms and showers and some small offices and a large Kitchen.

About two years after completion we arranged for Prince Charles to come down and officially open it.  This picture shows the unveiling of the plaque after which I then gave him a tour of the building and introduced him to those who worked there.  I thought it would be a quick visit but in fact I was with him for about 45 minutes.
